New this year, step into the festive spirit and charm of Christmas past in the Island’s oldest house. Expert guides share captivating stories of the Vineyard’s early rural Christmas celebrations, revealing how 19th-century traditions were shaped by works like Clement Clarke Moore’s A Visit from St. Nicholas. Experience the warmth and joy of family gatherings, acts of charity, and seasonal cheer. Brought to you by the Vineyard Preservation Trust.

For the fourth year, The Federated Church Meetinghouse will be filled with over fifty creches in a display titled “There is no Room in the Inn” for the benefit of Habitat for Humanity of Martha’s Vineyard. These are miniature nativity scenes, which celebrate the birth of Jesus. Children are welcome and will go home with stickers of the nativity scene and a backdrop to color.
Because Bethlehem was full of travelers who had come to take part in the Roman census, there was no room in the inns for Joseph and Mary and their newborn child. Many Island residents face the same problem that Mary and Joseph faced in Bethlehem. There is “no room in the inn” for them. The Creche display seeks to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity of Martha’s Vineyard. This organization is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness and to making adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat will offer a silent auction in the lobby of the Meetinghouse which will feature pieces donated to them including antiques and art.
The Creches reflect the creativity of the artists who have made the individual scenes. They range in style from delicate creches made of fragile crystal and glass to the austere beauty of Haitian scenes crafted out of metal salvage from oil drums. They come from all over the world including ones from Haiti, Mexico, Germany, and France.

State Beach and it’s delicate shore needs your help! Please check in at Little Bridge for an area to cover and return your bag to Little Bridge when complete! We will be ready for you to arrive anytime between 9am - 11am.
Join us for the Winter Wag Walk, a festive guided or self-guided stroll along the scenic North Water Street, beautifully decorated for the holidays! The walking group will depart at 11:30 AM, so bring your furry friends and enjoy fun activity stops and photo ops along the way. Delight in holiday-themed treats for both pups and their owners. The walk begins at the Mini Park and will end at the Edgartown Lighthouse.

Baritone David Behnke and pianist David Rhoderick will perform Robert Schumann’s monumental opus, "Dichterliebe" (A Poet’s Love), at the Edgartown Public Library.
The second portion of the program will be devoted to music of the season, including newer pieces as well as familiar favorites from Vaughan Williams, Warlock, Rutter, and others.

No Room at the Inn - the annual crèche exhibition at the Federated Church of Martha’s Vineyard will benefit Habitat for Humanity of Martha’s Vineyard. Over 40 crèches from all over the world will be shown in their historic 1828 Meeting House. The Creches or small tableaus represent the stable where Jesus was born when his family could find “no room in the Inn.” Children are welcome and will go home with an illustration and activity of a nativity scene.
